On a beautiful late spring afternoon 18 months ago, I was playing golf in my usual fourball. The standard of golf that day, as was nearly always the case, was mediocre at best. 

My playing partners and myself were typical of many golfers in that we played golf once or twice a week, had great expectations of playing good golf, would often hit it quite well on the driving range, yet usually shot between 90 and 105.

We were all very much alike, we were all averagely fit and had the usual array of golf training aids and the latest golf equipment.  We all had busy jobs and rarely practised, managing perhaps the odd trip to the driving range or a putt on the carpet at home.  We all watched golf on television and we all dreamed one day of playing decent golf.

In fact, our standard of golf was only marginally better than when we started playing together all those years ago.

Recently, on a similar beautiful spring morning we played our usual Saturday round.  We were still very much alike in many ways. But there was a difference.  Whilst my playing partners shot 89, 94 and 96 respectively, I shot 78, just 6 over par and my personal best.

The difference lies in what each person knows and how he or she makes use of that knowledge.

And that is why I am writing to you and to other golfers like you about this website. For that is the whole purpose of this website: To give its readers knowledge – knowledge that they can use to improve their golf.

I changed job 18 months ago in the pursuit of knowledge. I decided that my golf was not improving despite my best efforts in buying the latest swing aids and new equipment. I needed advice. The best advice I could find.

I approached  Europe’s number one golf coach, PGA Master Professional Pete Cowen for his advice on my game. He told me that ordinary golfers lacked  “the knowledge to practice in a way that would improve their golf”.  Sound familiar?
